Policies
Even though Kiwi 4x4 Incorporated was set up to be light on rules, policies and politics, we still need to set some basic ground rules. In the following links you will find some useful information to help you out as well as some basic rules that you should be aware of.
- Code of conduct
- Recovery point guidelines - aka 'tow hook policy'
- Safety & recovery gear guidelines
- Convoy rules
- Tread Lightly!
- Trip guidelines - info for people planning a trip
- Radio usage & etiquette
- Kiwi 4x4 Inc. constitution
Current Basic Club Rules
In order to provide an enjoyable and safe environment we must have club rules. These rules are set in the interests of our members and for the consideration of other road users/landowners. These rules do not replace any rule or law imposed by Property owners, OSH or any other legal governing entity in New Zealand.
- Vehicles must be mechanically sound and suitably equipped for off-road driving. The onus for safety rests solely on the owner to maintain their vehicle and equipment in good working condition at all times and to use them in a safe and responsible manner.
- Rated recovery points, must be securely mounted to the front and rear of the vehicle with high-tensile bolts, as per the club recovery point policy. Welded hooks, tow balls or tie-down rings are not suitable for vehicle recovery.
- A Fire extinguisher, suitable for fuel or electrical fires and a min size of .9 kg, must be carried in each vehicle at all times and must be securely mounted in an easily accessible location.
- An approved cutting (handsaw, axe) AND digging (spade, shovel) implement must be carried by each vehicle at all times. Carriage of chainsaws must be approved by the trip leader.
- Each vehicle must carry a minimum of one 6m rope or strap, suitable for snatch recovery along with a suitable rope/strap joiner as specified in the clubs safety policy.
- Each vehicle must carry a First Aid Kit. See safety & recovery gear guidelines.
- All equipment stowed in/on vehicle must be suitably secured to prevent loss/harm to any occupant or other road user.
- Club members must conduct themselves in an appropriate and responsible manner at all times during any club events.
- Guests can be invited on club trips with the approval of the trip leader, but are the responsibility of the member who invited them. Guests are required to observe all club rules and/or direction given by the trip leader. If that guest wishes to attend further trips/events, they are required to join the club.
- Club convoy rules become effective when leaving public roads, or as directed by the Trip Leader. convoy rules.
- Respect the environment, tread lightly and leave no rubbish.
- Dogs, Alcohol or Fire Arms are not permitted on club trips unless prior approval is sought from the trip leader/organiser or stated in the trip sheet.
- Additional equipment requirements and/or rules may apply at the discretion of the Trip Leader/Organiser.
- The equipment required by the club rules may be inspected by the trip leader prior to the commencing of the trip. If a vehicle is not compliant with the requirements, the trip leader may not allow that vehicle to participate on the trip. The onus is on the individual responsible for that vehicle to ensure its compliance with the club rules prior to the start of the trip.
Other suggested equipment - CRC or other type of water repellent for electric’s, Winch, (gloves, sack, rated shackles) high lift jack, and spare parts, (such as Fan belt, Condenser, Brake fluid, Air pump) etc.
